An Owner’s Perspective

I want to be clear about the context: I tried both of these for the first time recently. I didn’t come in with years of White Fox loyalty or a pre-existing preference for one format over the other. That’s actually useful — it means this comparison isn’t coloured by habit or familiarity bias. I was evaluating both as a relatively fresh user, which is probably the same position a lot of you are in.
I started with White Fox All White — ZYN is what I was most familiar with before stocking it, so White Fox felt like a natural next step up the strength ladder. Then I tried Clew Wintergreen, which I stocked specifically because it filled a gap in the Canadian market for genuine fruit and mint options in a different format. What I found surprised me a bit.

What I Actually Noticed
Moisture and Format
This was the most immediately obvious difference. White Fox All White is a dry format — the pouch feels almost powdery when you first handle it, and it activates gradually once it’s under your lip. Clew Wintergreen is noticeably more moist straight out of the can. The moment it goes in, you feel the flavour start to release — no waiting period, no gradual warm-up. For me personally, that immediacy felt more satisfying.
The moist format also makes Clew noticeably softer against the gum. White Fox is comfortable enough, but after a longer session there’s a slight dryness. Clew doesn’t have that — it stays comfortable throughout without any of the friction you can occasionally get from a drier pouch.
Pouch Size
Clew’s pouch is smaller and more compact than White Fox. This actually surprised me — I expected a moist format to feel bulkier, not less. The smaller size made it easier to position and less noticeable under the lip during a session. White Fox’s larger pouch has a more substantial feel if you like that, but for discreet everyday use the Clew size is better.
Flavour Intensity
Clew Wintergreen hits harder on flavour than White Fox All White. The wintergreen character is immediate and pronounced — you know exactly what flavour you’re getting from the first minute. White Fox’s flavour profile is more restrained and builds gradually, which some people prefer. For me, I liked knowing the flavour was there without having to wait for it. That said, White Fox’s subtlety means the flavour doesn’t fatigue you — it’s gentler but more sustained in character.
Session Length
This one genuinely surprised me. I expected the moist format to burn through faster — more immediate release usually means shorter session. But Clew Wintergreen actually lasted longer than I expected. The session held consistently past the 30 minute mark without the flavour going flat. White Fox’s session felt more standard — solid 20 to 30 minutes before it started to taper noticeably.
My honest take: I went in expecting to prefer White Fox — it’s the more established brand, the higher-profile product. I came out preferring Clew Wintergreen. The more moist format, stronger initial flavour, smaller pouch size, and longer session added up to a more enjoyable experience for me personally. That surprised me and it’s worth sharing because I think a lot of people who’ve only tried dry all-white formats don’t know what they’re missing.

For my personal use — more immediate flavour, more comfortable format, longer session, better value per can. White Fox remains a great product and I’ll keep stocking both. But if you asked me which one I reached for more often after trying both, it was Clew.

Choose Clew Wintergreen if: You want immediate, strong flavour from the first minute. You prefer a smaller, more discreet pouch. You like a moist format that stays comfortable through longer sessions. You want 20 pouches per can at $15.99.

They’re genuinely different experiences rather than one being objectively better. My preference is Clew — but I’ve talked to customers who tried both and went back to White Fox for the exact same reasons I preferred Clew. Format is personal.
